One of the needs we all feel in modern life, one that often rises but is seldom fulfilled, is the need for community. We all long to belong.

Here at Musselman’s Lake we enjoy the good fortune of belonging. We belong to this hidden jewel of a community and whether we chose to act on invitations to help with the Earth Day spring clean-up, dance the night away at Hallowe’en, or enjoy the Winter Carnival as volunteer or attendee, we all reap the good feeling of knowing we participate in an exemplary community. We are also supported by the excellent reporting and coverage of the Stouffville Free Press, under the editorial eye of Kate Gilderdale.

The mandate of the Free Press includes dedication to the positive, upbeat events, the happenings that bring us all together in a way that lights up the best in us. That is what Kate Gilderdale and the Stouffville Free Press continue to offer to all of us at Musselman’s Lake. The Stouffville Free Press’s Ramblin’ Ruth column is a prime example of this. Ruth LeBlanc is a resident of Musselman’s Lake and her entertaining column often captures life at the Lake in an upbeat and humorous light.

Kate’s recent coverage of our Name Survey indicated we are included in matters involving not just our immediate area, but that we count to the larger town of Stouffville. Her continued interest in creating friendly and informed relations between the people, who live in the many small communities that comprise the Township of Whitchurch Stouffville, remains a model of how positive communities are built, and how they thrive. The Free Press under the ever vigilant Ms. Gilderdale, serves honestly and without bias, when researching and reporting on events here at Musselman’s Lake and the surrounding communities. Ms. Gilderdale serves to bring our community into more clear focus for our neighbours in Stouffville and the whole Township of Whitchurch Stouffville.

For all her continued help in covering our activities, in particular for her support on our Lake Watch Program and with the survey to determine our official name, we send a communal “THANK YOU” to Kate Gilderdale and all at the Stouffville Free Press.
